REGULATION and ETHICS

HOME > ACTIVITIES > REGULATION AND ETHICS

Regarding ethical, legal and social implications of genome information, our project has considered the origin and revision process of ethical principles, statements and regulations from historical perspectives. Focusing on emerging technologies such as genome sequencing, genome editing and genome writing, we have analyzed ethical frameworks such as the Declaration of Helsinki, the Belmont Report and UNESCO’s statements. Through the first semi-closed project meeting, we have discussed such issues with invited researchers like President Ryuichi Ida (Shiga University). One of the main findings of our previous activities is the difficulty to manage the gap between the core concepts and their practical implications through such regulation schemes. The second meeting then opened up discussions beyond conventional biomedical ethics policy issues by inviting experts in health communications, public ethics and ethics in the era of Anthropocene with focuses on publicness and future generations.
